From reading various posts I'm led to believe there is an existing audio (not power) harness/cable on C5's running from the dash head to the rear, even if the car didn't come equipped with a rear changer. My questions are:
1. Is the audio feed cable reach-able in the passenger’s foot well?
2. What color is the jacket/insulation so I can ID it/ (pics would be great!!)
3. Can I simply tap into it to run my MP3 via the AUX?
4. Are there any “gotchas” I should be aware of?
As far as I know, the cable was NOT installed unless there was a CD changer installed in the rear compartment. You can add this cable very easily and it goes from the passenger footwell (where it connects) to the rear compartment. This is called the COR-HAR harness and you can buy it online at various places (here is one http://www.logjamelectronics.com/piecorhar.html ) This allows you to use the AUX button on your head unit to control another device such as an MP3 player or iPOD controller.
Usually, however, you'll need at least one more piece. http://www.logjamelectronics.com/piegm10aux.html
This gives you the normal audio outputs. I've used these to install an iPod player in my car (using a power wire also located in the passenger footwell).
