1) can i add XM or Sirius through the head unit, rather than the plug and play route?
2) Is there any way to play DVD movies on it?
3) Is the head unit "modifiable?" as in, can i change the start up screen etc?
Thanks guys.!
The factory mounting position for the XM unit is under the carpet above the left rear wheel. If you pull that carpet back you should see the harness.
Not practically, no. There's a company that will solder in a composite video jack, but you have to send your unit to them. Then you have to install an outboard DVD player. Take that inconvenience and add in the fact that the screen resolution is very low and DVD's will look like crap and to my mind it's not even close to worth it.
All of these are workarounds... my opinion, if you really want features like DVD playback, custom screens, Bluetooth, GOOD iPod control, etc then remove the factory unit and put it on a shelf in case you want to take the car back to stock some day. Install an aftermarket head that will give you those features.
thanks for the info, i am going to stick with the stock head unit, it seems to work just well and i don't really need those other features.
Tell you one thing though, my next work truck will be getting the kenwood 7100.
