Default What should I purchase?

I can't decide what the next mod for my car should be. I've got an extra 300 bucks to blow and I can't decide what I should get. I was thinking about the vortex cold air or a JL sub and some mb quart mids/highs. I don't know jack when it comes to stereos. I plan on putting a nice system in my car and I was wondering what would be a good setup? I went to an audio place around here and they said that a panasonic head unit, mb quart 5.25's and 6.5's one 4 channel JL 300 watt amp and a JL sub (can't remember the model number) and a JL 250 watt 1 channel amp to push the sub, any comments?

All the above was good except the Panisonic unit. They suck. Get a nice alpine or pioneer. Top alpine now is the 7878. Top Pioneer is 9300. Check http://www.mmxpress.com for decent prices and good picks and specs on decks. JL amps are Ok and so is the sub. Decent bang for the buck no pun intended. MB is very good if you are getting their top seperates. Bottom lines leave something to be desired.

Ah, so I guess your saying go for the stereo instead of the vortex :p: What would the best system I could get? Best bang for the buck wise, i'll spend up to 1500 for a system installed. I'm scared to death to take apart my car, i'll have to get someone to do it for me :)

Here is realistic prices for very good but not top equipment.
Pioneer 7300 deck $260 http://www.mmxpress.com/Pioneer/dehp7300.htm
JL audio stealth box from the guy EdwardTaylorIII got it from, something like $350,
Fosgate G600.5 amp $468 Cheapest 5 Channel I could find thought I'd rather have two amps, one 2 channel for bass and one 4 channel for mids and tweets. http://www.mmxpress.com/rockford/images/g6004.jpg
Extra tweeters$100. You'll have to listen to some to find what you like. Try diamond, focal, boston acoustics, MB and A/D/S.
$2000 is more realistic for a killer system. You could then get the amps and seperates in the front. Installation is usually 50-100$ a component.
My system installed would be in the neighborhood of $3500. Got the stuff cheap and did it myself. In any case, I'd get this head unit over any panisonic available. The rest of the stuff the shop showed you would probably be good and a good deal if they wanted $1500. See if they will sub in the pioneer instead.

Plus if you get the Pioneer or Alpine, most of their new units support the XM radio that is now available. You need to set aside at least $2000 to get the stuff you want, because if you don't get the components you want the first time, you will regret it and end up spending more money down the line to get what you wanted in the first place.

I am good at installs, but I live in TN and you live in SC....I would only charge a few $$$ and a 12 pack.. :D
