I'm replacing the bose system in my 89 vette with a non-bose system, and wonder why I can't use the existing speaker wires. I disconnected the wire from the door amp, and ohm check it from the head unit connector, I got a complete reading. So why should I not use this wire? Don't want to screw anything up. Thanks for any help you can give.
I did this just this over past weekend and you CAN use the old wiring on aftermarket speakers. Just remember to cap off the 12v and ground wire that power the amps! The problem I'm having now is, I bought 6.5" speakers and can't figure out how to mount them in the existing front location? I went with a pioneer head unit, component speakers in the front with 6x9's in the rear. Possibly a sub in the future. If any one has any ideas on how to reuse the door locations for aftermarket 6.5" speakers, feel free to chime in.
Last weekend I put 6.5 coax speakers in the doors. I made an adapter from some acrylic sheets using a Dremmel tool to cut the circle. Works fine except for the speaker cover, but I'll make those next weekend.
I was thinking of ordering some new door carpet (without the speaker cutouts) and just hiding the door speakers that way. Should be a nice clean look, but I'm not sure of the sound I'll get?
