Default C6 speaker question for audio experts

When changing the door speakers to BA's if the center is replaced with a more power hungry speaker would it "tone down" the volume? I really don't want to disconnect it but neither do I want it completely killing the "stereo" sound of the BA's. If this will work can you recommend a speaker for the center? Thanks for the help!

In theory your idea is right. A speaker with a lower sensitivity will be quieter. IMO just unhook it

If you plan on using the center channel, choose a speaker that sounds similar to the others you use up front. The sensitivity of the center is irrelevant. It's a very simple thing to wire a resistor or two in-line to reduce its output however much you like.

My new amps and speakers so overpower the center, I can't even tell it's there. I didn't even bother disconnecting it.

Thanks. About what size resistor? In just one wire?

On average, a 4-ohm resistor will drop SPL about 3-4 dB. An 8-ohm resistor will reduce by around 6 dB. These are estimates only, and actual reductions vary depending on the speakers you use. You simply wire it in series on either the + or - of the speaker.

Resistors are cheap enough that the best thing to do is grab one each from 2-ohm through 8-ohm, trying them each in-line until you get the SPL reduction you like. If you need more than 8-ohms, simply attach a 2-ohm or 3-ohm, etc. to the end of the 8-ohm resistor to create 10- or 11-ohms. You'll see that resistors have a wattage rating. Do NOT worry that your amp is more powerful than the resistor's rating. Music power is never equal to amplifier power.

It all sounds more complicated than it is.
