The speed sensor is located on the rear differential.

About the Speed Control wire, I tapped into the green/white stripe wire in the stock wire harness for the original stock sterreo. The stock sterreo uses the speed to adjusts the volume as you increase your speed. I believe someone posted a pic of that wire. I tapped into it for my avic d3 and I have no error messages and I checked the wire connection in the menu of the avic d3 and it said "Connected" and it displays my speed.

Its easy to install, I thought it was going to be hard, but its not really.

Speed Sensor wire:

Hope it helps,

Justin

That's an easy solution. I thought you might have to tap into out by the battery area where all of the PCM and tranny harness connectors are.

I did this and it seemed to work but I had no pulses. Went to the green with white #7 in the gauge bezel and it works fine

Between #6 and #8. Just count from the end. The big tip is it is a green wire with a white stripe. There are two wires coming out of it with that same color. One is for oil pressure I think.

I have read someone getting it by just removing the knee bolster and reaching up for the Green wire with White stripe (Not removing the bezel.) Seems you might risk connecting the oil pressure to the VSS for a few seconds while you look for speed pulses on your unit; you would have it set up with the right screen to look at before doing that. But it probably wouldn't hurt anything. If it doesn't work change to the other one.

I ended up pulling my cluster to place aluminum bezels and did it all then.

Incidentally, many times when someone asks for the VSS someone invariably posts a pic of the transmission and says that connector is where the VSS is. That IS where it ORIGINATES but it has absolutely nothing to do with people trying to find it for a NAV setup. Not helpful information. I wonder if those people do it to be sarcastic.

You don't have to remove the gage cluster but a mirror and a good light will make it easier for ya to locate the connector release and unplug it from the cluster.

Right behind the left hand side of the gage cluster.

I am in the middle of installing a Avic-Z2 in my '01 Z06. Now I confussed. So the green wire w/white stripe behind the cluster and the green wire w/white stripe in the radio connector and the green wire w/white stripe at the PCM are not the same? Eeie Meenie Miney Moe?

Thanks, I was ready to connect to the green wire w/white stripe in the radio connector. I guess I'll cut my loses and go to the cluster. I agree with macro76
