DB, Where is the USB input to this unit? Also, you ever heard of "panel conversion"? Thanks.....steve
The USB is on the end of a cable coming out of the back of the head unit. It's a female cable end so you just plug your USB input into it. The cable is long enough to be routed anywhere you want it in or behind the dash. In Curt's '74 we ran it up and in from behind the ash tray so he could open it up, and plug in his media player.
The panel conversion was explained just above. All you're doing is cutting out a DIN opening in either your stock gauge bezel or an after market one you buy. For the older style bezel like yours you will also need the plastic trim cover as is linked above, and you'll have to cut the DIN out of it too.
It's really not that bad once you get into it. The key is to make an outline of your cut line, and cut so the opening is too small. It's better to be too small and file away material until the head unit cage fits, than it is to cut too big and RUIN the gauge bezel.
ive yet to figure out how you guys ever got your amps in the rear storage compartment. both the amps ive had have been much much bigger then the storage compartment.
im mounting mine on the wall behind the seats this time.
Thanks DB. My 74 has the stock radio and bezel. After I remove the radio, do I just cut the opening with the gauge/radio bezel still in the car?
Use a dremel tool I suppose and just grind away?
Does anybody have any pics of this process? Thanks again...

Here are a few pics I have not sure if this helps....
I took everything off my bezel to swap it to a new one I purchased from ebay for 70... but you can take everything off of the bezel to make the cut. Atleast I was able to onmy 77...

I don't have any pics but it's best to take it out. You can use the cage that comes with the head unit to trace a rough cut line. The metal they use to make the bezels is very thick around the radio so you'll want to use an angle grinder or a good jig saw. It is best to remove the bezel from the car and remove everything from the bezel while doing this. Remember, smaller is better at first.

Mark it with a perm marker, then dremmel it with a good cut out wheel, I went through about 15 of the thin, unreinforced ones, so wear safety glasses. You can use a hand hacksaw like piced for some of the cuts, saves some time. Cut from the back. Get the face plate and it will look perfect. C.
