Hey guys, I looking to get a custom made sub box (2X 10") for the C6. I don't like any of the stealth boxes, I want something that goes right behind the seats and can hold 2 X 10" and an amp, and still be able to put the glass top in the back. A local audio place quoted me about $1K for a fiberglass box. I was just wondering if anyone had made their own fiberglass box and how easy it was. Thanks!!

I am planning on building my own starting later this week. There have been two done that I am going to use for reference. One made by Smooth72 and the other by _nomad_. I also bought some DVD's on fiberglassing and have done a ton of reading. It seems like the hardest is if you are going to paint it. I say this because you have to have the finish perfect for paint. If you do vinyl or carpet the finish does not have to be as perfect.

I gotcha... I was hoping to paint it. I've done my share of fiberglassing, so hopefully, I will be able to get it smooth enough. What do you plan on doing?? PM me some photos when you start, if you don't mind. Thanks!! I think I'm going to make mine similar to _nomad_'s.

Steve,
I have a box that will hold two 12" subs. I bought it here thinking it would fit my C5, but I think it was built for a C6. I've sold my C5, so I have no where to put it. It is a fiberglass box with the bottom made out of particle board. It is carpeted in black. I'll be happy to show it to you to see if you want it. PM me if you're interested.

I am not sure if you have seen these threads but I am planning on doing something similar. I am not sure if I am going to face the woofers towards the front or back but I am going to make the enclosure and amp rack more integrated like Smooth72 did. Here are the links.

I already have all the speakers and wanted to build something myself. Thanks!

If I do it this way I will build the amp rack and sub enclosure as one piece.
Steve
I am going to build mine like the second link, the way "_Nomad_" made it, only I'm going to integrate the Amp and Capacitor between the subs, as to save space.

If you are going to do that, look at this box as a model. It is a very nice design as well.
Well, this is what I produced after 2 weeks of working on it about 2 hours a day, every now and again. I learned A LOT.. so if I was to make another one, it would come out MUCH better. But I'm not sure I'm too motivated to make another one unless I have about 2 weeks off of work.
My goal on this was to retain the use of the rear compartments, as well as be able to put the top in the back. I accomplished both of those. I'm pretty happy with it for the time being. I think I may have it wrapped in leather... not sure. Let me know what you guys think. Its ok... I can take it.
Nice.. I'm getting ready to take on a similar setup. I've just gotta make room for two amps. also gonna do a hack job on my b pillars to try to keep it as clean as possible..

I REALLY recommend taking your time. My biggest problem is that I'm always trying to get things done so fast, that I don't take my time to make. And the quality usually suffers. I guess, don't expect it to be done in a certain amount of days.... just get it done when it gets done.\
Just don't let the wife give you the "when are you going to be done messing with that stupid car??" routine!! thats the hardest part. Spreading your time between the 2 ladies.

It will take me forever. I'm horrible about details.. it's gotta be perfect. I may ditch my true bass idea because i really want to do a fiberglass box and it's hard to get a ported glassed box to sound right.. and the true bass subs have to be in a ported box or they sound like poop

Maybe thats what my problem is. Its not ported. I wonder if I add some ports to it, if it will sound better... but if it doesn't... its kinda hard to "un-port" it.
did u calculate the air space and base it on ur subs specs
Hahahahaha... of course not... I think you have me confused me with a professional. Nahh... I figured that would be too cosmic to do along with trying to make it fit right behind the seats, and not make it too big so the top would fit, AND trying to make it so the amp and Cap would fit in the middle. I guess thats why the professionals charge $1000 to do something that cost me $175 to make.
LOL.. I think for those subs the box is big enough for ports.. my question is where would you put a port? then we gotta figure out the port dimensions...
