Question about stereo options....

Question about stereo options....
I have a 1996 CE, and the CD player has gone haywire, along with not being able to set the clock anymore. I know I am going to have to replace the stereo, or have it fixed at Dr. Dons.
I am in a quandry as what to do here, either way is going to be expensive, as I would like to have a jack added that I can play my MP3 player, or I could purchase an aftermarket stereo, but would that intale having to switch out the speakers also?
I really love the sound of the bose.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
