Okay, I'm fed up with this old Eclipse HU!! Nice unit in it's day, but now it seems to have a hard time playing CD's and skips at the slightest hint of a bump in the road. I'd like to swap it out with a new HU, but I want to do the install myself. My questions:
1. Obviously, if at all possible I'd like to do a plug-and-play replacement without needing to splice and/or re-wire. Are the audio harnesses pretty standard for the C5 audio or does each HU come with it's own specific harness/wiring scheme. Would another Eclipse give me a better shot at plug-n-play?
2. My current Eclipse is a single 1-DIN unit with a filler plate around it. I hate that look so I'd like to fill the whole area by going with 1.5-DIN HU. Was the stock Bose units 1.5 DIN?? If so, can anyone suggest a good (non-stock) model replacement or have pictures of a 1.5 installed? Will a 1.5-DIN mount right in like the stock Bose did?
Well... the good news is, someone else has already done the hard work. Replacing an aftermarket HU with another aftermarket HU is pretty simple.
Most of the aftermarket wiring harnesses have been standardized over the years, so you should have no problem with cutting the plug-in aftermarket harness and connecting the harness from your new HU.
Not really. I was hoping to find something that would fill the whole space, but it appears the 1.5 DIN options are few and far between. I have a Soundstream Amp, JL speakers and a JL 10" Subwoofer already installed so I want to get something good enough to drive those, but not too expensive. Bluetooth and/or HD would be nice but are not a requirement. Don't need XM. A good, easy to read clock and display would be nice too (can't see the Eclipse display/clock with moving my head).
Really, I don't need anything fancy. I was looking more to get something nice, with good anti-skip technology, and something that would enhance the look of my interior. Are there any good looking 1-DIN filler plates? Or possibly move the 1-DIN up and fill in the lower .5 with something?
