Default Progress

Been busy on other fronts, but here's the progress so far on the '71 audio install.

Replaced all the bulbs in the cluster while I was at it. Also removed the old speaker and amp and their associated wires after this pic was taken.

Soldered the wires to the speakers, and shrink wrapped 'em so they won't touch the birdcage opening by accident.

I'm planning to use connectors on the other wire ends of both the head unit and speaker wires.

The power plug on the harness can be seen on the left of the console (yellow/black/grey).

Planning to put male blade connectors on the head unit wires and plug them each into the original harness plug. Good Idea/Bad Idea?

Black is ground, Yellow is On, and Grey is Acc???

Thanx again for your help guys, I'll keep you posted.

the original harness plug. Good Idea/Bad Idea?

The car original harness plug has switched power to turn radio "On", black ground & gray is for the stock radio light which is normally not used. Some aftermarket HUs can use the original gray for light dimming.
You could use the car original harness plug switched power & black ground. What you will still need is to run a constant 12V + for memory as stated previously.
