Distortion on system

I put in a JVC deck a few weeks ago still running the Bose speakers. Sounded ok. Last week I got rid of the Bose speakers and installed Infinity all around. 6.5"s. Added a sub woofer w/ amp. Speakers running off deck power. When car is running and Alt is at 14.1 system sounds ok. Not great but ok. When car is off and deck running on just battery power 12.5 volts it distorts and sounds like cr*p. If I turn on my fans and the voltage drops a little it sounds even worse. I have a new battery. I'm wondering if I have a bad ground from frame to battery or somewhere else. All the wiring to the deck is new and has been double checked. Would a bad ground cause this distortion? Any ideas where to check besides main ground cable? Any other ideas?

the voltage drop will allow the amp to clip/ride the rail more easily therefore distorting allthough with quality equpiment ive never noticed it. but a bad ground could be culprit

If you think it's a ground problem, Take a long piece of wire and run the HU ground straight to the battery and see if the problem goes away. If not, your HU may not be able to handle those speakers. You may need another amp. It certainly wouldn't hurt.
