I use to use Cliffords all the time, but no one around here seems to carry them anymore. What are the best, most user friendly ones out there. If anyone knows, I really like the fact you could adjust the Cliffords sensitivity by remote. I don't want to be going under the hood with a screw driver to screw with the alarm. Cliffords was digital. What's the best now? Oh, and what's a good price range? Install inclued.
Clifford is still the best. I would go on their site and find a dealer near you. Ungo is a good basic reliable alarm, and I've heard good things about viper but never used their stuff. Clifford is however a bear to install vs. some of the others so make sure you get a guy who knows the car and the alarm both first.
I HAD A Maxiguard Alarm from the time I bought my car until just recently.. I installed it and it work well for the 8 years I had it.
I am now going to install the GM VKE 1000 Keyless entry. I decided not ot install an alarm. I don't drive the car enough to warrant the need. I think the Factory alarm will work for my purpose. I may also try to install my Proximity Sensor from the Maxiguard into the stock system. I just have not looked into it yet.
I have a Clifford IG8000 sitting with all my Vette parts. I was going to install it, but if a thief wants the car.. they will get it.. buit again.. my vette is garaged and is not my daily driver anymore.
Most alarms made by DEI are nice. I also like Alpines. However, the best alarm I have seen is this one http://www.compustar.org I have heard a few bad things about them in the beginning but now all I hear is great stuff and the unit is very well built. The new ones are really sweet and I love the features of it. Mine is going in my truck as we speak and I have the other one for my vette sitting here at the house. Check them out.
I have the Viper , turned off the factory alarm , hated the passive alarm.. It seem s be ok had it about a year now , no problems, and any local dealer can install. Good luck Jim
Alpine alarms, are great, clifford are ok, lots of features, but the reliability isn't great, viper os good, if a little pricey. These are my observations from working in a stereo install shop for the last 2 years or so.
Another Clifford here. I've never had any problems with it. It did false-alarm the perimeter radar when I first got it. But it's real easy to adjust the radar sensitivity; no problems after that. Plus I can deactivate the perimeter radar when parked in busy areas (with the remote).
What ever alarm you get, find an installer who has worked on Vettes before. And don't forget to protect the battery! (or get a backup battery)
