Amp mounting..and some other questions 86 model
I tried putting in a stereo and got no sound from the front and rear...it is mentioned to disconect the amps which I did not do...but in the rear there is no wiring at all...I think previous owner removed it. So do you guys think it would be best to just run new wire to the door...or use stock wire..minus the amp. I have to run to the back anyhow becouse I cant find any.
Also is there a good place to run a power wire through the firewall? have not looked yet....to hot today to be out...one disadvantage of living on a tropical island....you can never work on your car :cry
Im have an old JVC cd player and an acoustic amp...and two kicker 8 inch solo-baric subwoofers new..so Im gonna build a small box that fits flush in the back on the far wall. I listen to rock and was told smaller subs are better for faster reaction...hope I was being told right...but all this stuff was given to me for free....a bunch of my friends pitched in there old stuff. So it will do till I can afford one fo those JVC Kamelion cds....I love that look.
Thanks guys
Power goes through the firewall in a hole you make yourself. Look at the contours of the firewall above the pedals on the interior side. Then look in the engine compartment and get an idea of coresponding areas. Another way to do this is to look for a wire on both sides and use that as a gauge. With your gauge, calculate a spot to drill a hole for the wire, say 2" to the left of that wire. Then drill a pilot hole and verify you are OK. Then put the hole through and put a rubber grommet in the hole to seal it.
Lastly, run at least an 8 gauge wire to the battery from the amp and to the frame at the rear of the car from the amp. Make sure you fuse the power wire in the engine compartment and sand the ground point on the frame.
Hope this helps.
BTW, forget the JVC deck you mentioned. JVC breaks easily and is so-so quality. Get a Pioneer, preferably one that has at least 4 RCA outputs. Don't worry about size, get a regular din and a kit. They work better and cost less than the "custom fit" ones. You can get a Pioneer 4300 for under $200 at http://www.mmxpress.com
