Steping into a 2001, wanting to add a aftermarket stereo.
Want to add a non-foldout cd/dvd(plays while driving)/nav(non cd database) touch screen, bluetooth unit. Not looking to do a whole computer set up, something out of the box will do. Open to the idea of changeing speakers if it will make a world of difference, if not the Bose will work for me.
Questions: What make/model do you recomend?
Will it fit where the stock radio sits now?
Well, your options are kinda limited unless you want to do some modifications. Our C5's have a 1.5 DIN radio opening, and a lot of the nav units I have seen are a 2 DIN.
There are exceptions if you are willing to go with a fold out unit. The Kenwood P-NAV512 and KNA-G510 GPS add-on might work but you will need the KCA-BT200 Bluetooth adapter.
The Eclipse AVN7000 is a fold out NAV unit and has a hard drive for the nav, but doesn't have Bluetooth.
The JVC KD-NX5000 with is a single DIN with a 3.5" screen, but again you will need to add a Bluetooth adapter. (JVC KS-BTA200)
The Pioneer AVIC-N4 is a fold out NAV, but I think it is DVD based... and you need a Bluetooth adapter. (Pioneer CD-BTB200)
If you want to go double DIN, you are looking at modifying your bezel, or purchasing a new one. (Figure $475-550 if you buy one.) You will end up moving your HVAC controls down a little bit. Not a big deal if you have some mechanical ability. Do a search to find some write-ups on how some others have gone double DIN.
If you are going to go spend the time and money to upgrade your system, then you will be much better off replacing the Bose speakers. You won't hear a lot of people sing praises about the Bose... and to interface your new HU into the Bose system will cost you $50-up. A better option would be to replace the speakers with a nice component system. Expect to spend $150 for a basic system, or $250-up for a really nice set of components.
