Default advice on replacing bose in 85

Hello, I have the bad bose system and am looking to replace it with something decent. the key is that I want the head unit to be flush with the dash. I spoke with crutchfield last night and they tell me many units will fit flush if i remove some support bracket behind the current bose set up. I then use a c4 adaptor to accomodate gaps etc and install the new head unit. Does anyone have any experience with this procedure? Any risks to removing the support bracket behind the factory head unit.... the bose system in my 85 is awful. thx

cutting the bracket back there is pretty standard no reason not to

its a support piece for the factory radio

Id look into a decent radio and speakers all around and maybe an amp for em if you really wanna be able to crank it up

If u need any install help let me kno

excellent - thanks for the offer on install help. I am right near by you in Arlington Heights. I 've been reading that I might have to rewire to put in aftermarket speakers - not sure why that would be necessary .is that true?

85 is about the easiest car in the world to run new wire in. I'd highly suggest doing it. Get some 16 gauge from Walmart

Good idea to have Penta help you, he knows what to do. Wish he lived near me.
