I only want to pull the trigger once on this one. Yes, I have searched the forums and found almost too much info. These are the two ways I'm thinking about going:
1. alpine cda 9887 head unit
alpine spr-17s 6.5 components in front
alpine spr-13c 5.25 coaxial in rear
JL 12w3v3 sub in a subthump flush mount
alpine pdx 4.100 for fronts and rears
alpine pdx 1.600 for the sub

2. same head unit
jl xr650 csi 6.5 components in front
same sub and box
alpine pdx 4.150 amp to run fronts and sub

A couple things are clouding my mind. First off has anyone seen one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/C5-Co...spagenameZWDVW
For the price it looks killer, but am wondering quality??? It is just $120 more than the subthump, but I would need to go down to 2 10" subs instead of one 12".

I already have a new wiring kit ready to go. I would buy the ipod adapter for the head unit and run it into the arm console. Which option is best? What would you change? I listen to all types of music, I really enjoy hard hitting bass, I'm not too picky... I just want it loud, clear, and hard! Both of these set ups are around $1300. I would like be in the $1200 to $1800 range.

Please help!! any input here would be great. I've spent half of the day looking up stuff, thinking I have my set-up, and then changing my mind

One last thing. I ordered a partition last week. Is the bass going to come through to the cockpit well enough?

Thank you,
John

yikes, that box is kinda ugly plus you are going to totally lose the functionality of your trunk with a painted box back there.

i would vote for option 2 as well, but i've never heard the speakers... have you?

they are JL audio speakers. I'm kind of weird this way but I like keeping my systems down to just a couple brands.

So I would have alpine deck and amps, and JL audio speakers.

If there is a killer set of 6.5's for $200 bucks then show me the way and I'll check them out.

keeping your system limited to only a couple brands is really a poor rule of thumb.

My suggestion would be to go actually listen to the gear you're proposing. the alpine amps are nice and compact but you can do better for the money.

yeah, like I said I know I'm weird like that, but I guess in my mind I think that by staying with the same brand they were perhaps designed to work together better.

This is starting to be a head ache figuring out which way to go

ill just add that IMO alpine speakers and subs are garbage, for the same price thers alot better stuff out there. And unless u need a super small amp you can do better then the PDX

That is one of the reasons I'm thinking of PDX. I would love to not have to worry about them getting hot and finding an inconspicuous spot so nobody notices the amp.

I would get most of the stuff from ebay b/c it is about half the price of retail in most cases.

In your opinion is the JL audio stuff good?

JL makes good stuff but IMO its pricey. If you arent locked in on JL im sure we can make some good suggestions

PDX amps are great if you have a Z you can fit one under passenger seat with no problems

rear speakers are pointless in a vette
if your worried about power do the pdx4.150 for frts and sub

even sticking with the same speaker manufacturer when building components (tweets and mids) isn't a wise thing to do most of the time. instead concentrate on getting the best equipment for your budget and installation limitations. if you look at my set up:

tweeter amp -phase audio
mid amp -phase audio
mid-range speaker - seas
tweeter - dynaudio
sub amp - zapco
sub -tc sounds
processor - behringer

i'm all over the place :-)

oh.. you never told us... have you listened to any of the components you've listed?

I'm not too picky... I just want it loud and clean. I have polks in my house that I like, Infinity in a couple of cars that I like.

Loud and clear is the main thing... I'm not good at picking the music apart into details.

I think I'm set on the PDX 4.150 to go under the seat.

For the sub, what if I stayed with the subthump box with a JL W6 running off of the 300 watts bridged?

the home and oem speaker setups are completely different, go listen to the speakers first.

as far as the w6, i'm pretty sure that 300 watts is on the lower end of that subs power handling, you'd be better off with more power or a different sub
