They are completely different speakers.
- C5 woofer is based on their ZR woofer (Cast Alloy Frame)
- better cooling for woofer
- better motor structure
- .75" silk dome tweeters instead of 1" aluminum dome
- better crossover
- fixed tweeter - not adjustable to aim like the XR

I had the xr components in my car, replaced them with C5-650 components. They're powered by JL 450/4. They are a much better speaker. They can handle more power( I cooked two xr-650's). The C5's sound fantastic at all volumes. The midrange is good and those silk tweeters are smooth.I have the xr-525's as rear fill but the C5's carry most of the weight.

Didn't see your posts.. I had just made a thread..
The reason I'm asking is I'm going with the ZR series components up front and they use aluminum tweeters..
Wasn't sure if I should stay with the XR & their aluminum tweeters or the new C5's which have silk tweeters..
Is mixing speakers with different tweeters (aluminum + silk) a bad thing?
