Default C5 System Questions - Amp choices

Thanks for taking the time to help me out with my audio choices. In the past I've had two camaros with moonsoon systems that I added a JBL 10" sub and an amp to. I am looking to upgrade my C5 system as it has been disappointing lately.

I typically listen to rock/metal but throw in the occasional rap/hip-hop selections as well. Listening to Korn yesterday, the system sounded horribly distorted and bogged down. I typically have the targa top off as much as possible or atleast the windows down. From what I've read, this will make it sound better to have my tweeters in the front pillars.

I've read through tons and tons of threads looking at what my options were but two things are still a little unclear. My first stage (due to budget) will be a speaker upgrade while leaving the Bose HU intact. Here's what I plan to add:
* Fronts - EDI 6000s v.2 or JL C5-650 components
* Rears - None
* Sub - 1 JL 10w3 or 10w6
* Sub Enclosure - DIY box from C5 sticky
* Amp - Kicker kx 650.4
* Deadening - Yes, but haven't decided on type.

Now to the questions:
1) - The plans for the DIY sub box from the sticky say that it's approximately 0.76sqft volume. The specs I found for the JL 10w6 say that it needs 0.50 - 1.00sqft. Will the JL10w6 work in the DIY box or should I stick with the 10w3?

2) - Will the Kicker kx 650.4 amp be a good choice to run this sytem? Would I need more power if I went with a 10w6 vs. 10w3 sub? It looks like I can get this amp in the $200 price range, is there a better option in the $200-$300 price range? Since I typically have the targa off, do I need more power than this?

Stage 2 will be a double-din nav system if you were curious. I really want this setup now but budget is limiting me at this point. I figure I'll be happier getting a better sound quality as my first step.

Thanks in advance for all the help!

Jeff

last time I checked, .76 was right in between .5 and 1.00 I think it should be fine.

I think the Kicker amp should push pretty hard. I have some of their SX series in my Bronco and have liked them.
