Hello, I've been looking to update the system in my corvette, but i need a nave in my beater. Can i move the nav from my c6 to my 08 Grand prix. The grand prix doesn't even play mp3's so it needs something better, but it doesn't deserve the kind of stereo that my corvette does. I was thinking that swapping my c6's nav into it would fit the bill nicely.
I hear that when you move a nav to a different car that the dealer has to reset the vin with their tec2, but neither my pontiac dealer nor my chevy dealer knows anything about it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as i don't want to spend the money to replace BOTH stereo's, not to mention that i drive the grand prix everywhere for work, and wouldn't want to risk the left of a high-end unit.
If the c6 nav wont fit, does anyone know of another factory nav that might? the Grand prix has a HUD and steering wheel controls just like a c6, i'm hoping that some or all of it will work the same as in my corvette.
happy to go through the trouble. The built in stereo on the GXP doesnt even play mp3's, so beyond the nav i get xm (it already has xm so the anreanna is easy) mp3, and i'm thinking it'd work wiht my HUD and my steering wheel controls. no after market unit will work with my HUD that i know of.
You may want to get on to the Grand Prix forum, at www.clubgp.com. It is a slow board but they would hopefully know about the factory radio. As has been mentioned the C6 radio is vin locked to the car and requires a TEC II to enable it.
If what you want to do is possible, the Bose amp and possibly other Bose components would have to be transfered to the GP. Or use one of the adapters to add an aftermarket amp.
Now, it probably would be less expensive to get a low end NAV/MP3/iPod compatible head unit for the Grand Prix.

It appears the systems may be compatible because the Grand Prix uses the same interfaces for aftermarket units as the Vette does. However possible doesn't necessarily mean practical. At the very least you'll have to add a GPS antenna and since the NAV system only comes with Bose I'd agree about the amp needing to be moved. Odds are after you'd do everything you'd need, including paying a dealer that knows what they're doing, you'd spend less to buy & install an aftermarket unit.
they are actually the same unit. They just have a Pontiac splash screen, that is until they use the corvette flash to get it to play mp3's. So even if my grand prix came with a nav, it'd look just like the one in my vette right now as i'd have flashed it. That said, it also intergrates with the steering wheel buttons and the HUD. They also tend to be cheaper than the used corvette nav's when they show up on ebay, so anyone lookign to add a nav to their c6 might want to try and find a grand prix one.
