first pic of the prototype car pc interface

the prototype piece is complete and the cutter is sending it to me so i can see it in person and test fit it.

here it is:

i'm going to end up using the lower one with the text cut out on the top so it'll be visible at all times.

How will this work when done Scott ?

Is it meant to be below a display screen, in a custom bezel?

Hardware buttons, does that mean that there is a keyboard controller behind it?

it is actually a piece of clear acrylic that is painted whiite then black. then a laser etches off just the black and what you're left with is an oem looking backlit button (when i put led's behind each cutout) There will be a keyboard emulator wired to a bunch of momentary switches. the keystrokes will be mapped to their respective buttons and applications. This will allow me to switch between the gps screen and the media screen or vise versa w/o taking my eyes off the road to look at what i'm pressing. the slot above it all will be the front face of my dvd-rom so i can listen to cd's when i have them in the car.
