Default Component Speakers vs Just speakers

Jut wondersing - I see component speakers ar every expensive when compared to buying the individual speaker drivers and tweeter and crossover separately.

Just wondering is the component speaker package worth the triple extra cost?

Regarding my new C6 - what components speakers are recommended?

Go to www.crutchfield.com and do some reading. I installed JL components and coaxs and love them.

edit: I have the Alumapro components in the front on my C6.

Look at this series of posts regarding a C6 custom component set.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=2014008

Spkrboy knows his stuff, and does a great job explaining what it took to setup a system in a C6.

Switched from a Focal set to the custom one he made... gotta love it.

Budget is around $300 or so - I picked but havent ordered yet the Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.

I will use them with no subwoofer.

Any comments?

Those speakers are fine. I would run a sub at some point. The reason I say that, I find that Infinity's are really good in the mid to high range sound. They lack a little in the lows. Which would be solved if running a sub.

Are you running an amp? If no amp, components are not a good choice.

I will install a small amplififer under the dash if I swicth to component speakers - BUT...

You know, I just zipped down from New Paltz, into the City, with the radio blasting disco hits, and the base system sounded pretty darn good - almost great. With just a couple of good dome tweeters, it may sound great. Am I crazy???

I am an electrical engineer, and have installed systems in hotels and discos...so I do know something about sound...

I had a great trip there and back - those HUGE base woofers really can move air. It seems as though GM has the rear speaker doing some highs and midrange. Those big woofers are a real suprise. Am I goo goo?

What a great car...but the seat back lever is such crap - it MUST have been a low bid item that snuck by ...I cant believe GM put that piece of crap in the car. It doesnt even lever the seat properly without bending...opps, sorry, I know wrong forum...but sheez...

yes I will get a small amp that fits under the dash. The Alpine's look really nice...and still ok with my budget...this car is no Corvair.

Those Alpines really look VERY VERY NICE...thank you Homer3D - I think I love those Alpine's. They certainly use exotic materials...and have great spec's. Now for the rear's? Coaxials? Suggestions please...

exotic materials and sound quality aren't hand in hand. Some of the best speakers are made out of paper. My favorite speakers are made out of plastic.

not to say those alpines aren't great!

You can go "cheap" in he rears and go with coaxials. I run Infinity Kappas in the rear (5 1/4). Just something for rear fill.
