After trying the bypass, I lost all ability to use my nav. But then I did a dummy check with a multimeter and found that the wires weren't actually grounded. After making some adjustments to the connectors, everything worked beautifully.

ok, I happened to see the link to the wiring and I have a question for those that have already down this. The link said to move the mute wire and ground the light green and yellow/blk wire. Question is, is the yellow/blk wire they are talking about the mute wire, or a different wire? I only ask because that link was for the 700series and I have the 900.
