Default C5 Trunk Woofer Guys

I am contemplating adding a woofer to my 99 vert. I see these "Stealth" box's and it seams the sit slightly lower then the trunk floor. May be a dumb question but is this so you can add the original lid back on over top of the stealth box? If so does that reduce the output?

Another dumb question maybe. My vert is a daily driver and I throw golf clubs and archery equipment and other stuff in my trunk almost daily. All the pictures I see are exposed woofers. Are there protective covers that go over these speakers to protect them or do you guys no longer use your trunk as a trunk?

Any other options?

Bill

stealth box fits under the factory cover which will cut down on sound a bit... corvettecaraudio.com has a new cover with grill built in

whoever you buy box from make sure to ask if the cover will fit back on cause ive seen some boxes where it wouldnt

I added a BOSS powered subwoofer that fits right between the partition and the "lip".

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=18290

Includes hook and loop tape so it will "grab" onto the carpet (ie. no drilling holes for mounting).

Sounds ok to me

You should try these from elemental designs. Holds 8in subs and they pound like crazy They hide in the corner out of the way so you can still lug around some luggage. And the grill over them is made of MDF as well, pretty sturdy, so I dont worry about accidentally puncturing a sub.

Oh yea!! These are perfect but boy are they pricy. If the speakers were included for that price I’d be all over it.

Got a set of rims for sale. If they go I will get a set of these.

Thanks

it would have to be a pretty good one for that thing to become a projectile

I would think the fiberglass shards would be worse.

don't underestimate the physics of a projectile weighing... 30-40 lbs traveling at 30 mph. i can't imagine hook and loop being affective in a crash over; say, 5 mph or so. but, hey... it's not my life. you can do what you want.

At best the thing 10 lbs if even that.

The shear of the hook is about 250 ft lbs for each of the two areas that it is applied to and works great on the rear carpet.

I did my homework

My Z06 is my BABY and I wouldn't do something stupid to it (yet).

You would have to try it before you knock it.

I wouldn't use the stuff for something that had substantial weight or mass or was tall.

The sub also reinforces the partition so the bottom can't slide forward.

To bad the hook won't work on the front carpet.

I had to "tie down" the other stuff under the passenger seat.

Hey Scott, your in LA, I am in Torrance.

If your around, I can show ya that the stuff works.

lol... the only way you could prove it works is to get in a crash! :-)

it's cool, just trying to look out for you. i'm shocked it weighs 10 lbs! my sub alone weighs like 25 lbs.

my calculations may possibly be wrong, but it seems like it'll fail in a 55 mph crash

Here is just a random crash test figure from an 07 Monte. This is the standard 35 mph, 1/2 front tests like you see on TV. It experienced 32/36 g's depending on what side of the car you are on. In a crash you are going to have a vertical as well as a horizontal vector on your speaker unless the crash is exactly horizontal which isn't going to happen real world.

This many horizontal g's + the lifting are going to turn a 10lb speaker into a missile coming forward.

EDIT: I just re-read this one and started wondering... shear is measured as force/area. ft-lbs doesn't fit this. If what you meant to say is 250lbs/ft^2 then unless you have a full square ft. of velcro under there you have even less than 250lbs of holding power which isn't even close to being enough to hold that speaker down.

i totally overlooked the fact that he is probably using less then a sq/ft.

No room left in the center, but the sides are extra deep...

i love that install!

i guess i could show mine as well as another option that protects the sub, I still have to add the speaker cloth that will be flush with the bottom of the floor, just havent decided if i want to go black or match the carpet:

I guess they were kinda pricey...but worth it in my opinion. Plus the subs were pretty inexpensive IIRC, and they sound great.

I didnt realize they wont fit a coupe...but his vert should be the same a a Z back there so they should work for him right?

You guys have some really clean installs
