what is a good system for a c6 convertible. I went to a local store today and they were pushing focal speakers, jbl amp, jbl enclosures behind your head. I was interested in the kenwood 7120 but they thought 8120 is the way to go. there price was 1500 on the nav unit. Is that average?

It likely was JL Audio amp & subs, not JBL. JL is the only one making an under-tonneau sub system for the C6 verts. I have them in my system and was running Focal Kevlar speakers until recently switched to a custom setup.
I also compared the 7120 vs the 8120 and decided to go with the 8120. By the time you add Bluetooth to the 7120 you're within $50 of the 8120 and it has enough few extra features to make you shrug your shoulders and get it instead if you intend to use Bluetooth. $1500 is pretty much the standard retail price for the 8120, it's what you can get it for at Crutchfield. Remind your local store that you can get it for $1500 and not pay shipping or sales tax and I'd bet they'll start talking discounts.
I think an 8120 with Focal Polyglass and the JL Stealthbox subs will running on a 4 channel JL amp will make a damned fine setup. It will not, however, be cheap. You're looking at nearly $4000 there before installation.
It was jl audio. The quote was 5900 installed using some dynamat as well. the amp was around 800.
I'm a self-installer so I have a tough time commenting on the install labor costs, but it sure doesn't seem like they're cutting you any breaks on prices even though they're quoting you that full system. I'd point that out.
You might also consider the Kenwood DNX 5120. I just built a system and it goes a little something like this. Kenwood DNX 5120 (includes Nav) Ipod adapter and HD radio (skipped the subscription radio have XM in another car and it's ok, but eventually HD radio will be the norm). Hertz hi-energy 6.5" components in the doors using a nakid parts (corvette forum vendor) speaker plate kit, single JL W3v3 8" subwoofer in a custom built fiberglass enclosure, Audison SRX 3, 3 channel amplifier (75x2 to the doors with a dedicated subwoofer line at 280 watts...will have to turn the gain down a touch on that...the woofer is rated at 250). My total cost with the ridiculous Washington state sales tax is $3350 for everything, wiring harnesses, custom box, dynamat in doors....also I've given them the option to wire up some 5.25" Hertz hi energy co-axials to deck power if they feel that lack of rear fill is taking away from the overall sound experience...they will sell me the coaxs for half price...125 bucks if they think it adds to the system (regardless my quote includes wiring to the rear speak locations from the deck and capping those wires to add them later if deemed desireable). I could have probably haggled another 2-3 hundred off the price but the salesman did an excellent job educating me on options even though I am very familiar with car audio and I am happy with the service. Will right up a report when it's done..should be just a couple days.
