EvilBunny- I've had false laser alerts on my new V1, so it's not brand-specific. Some types of neon lights, and the taillights on some new cars, put out light on the same freq as police laser. No cure for it that I know of.
Lets face it guys, radar detection isn't exactly a rocket science type accomplishment. We've been doing it for years. Even Uniden has figured it out. Try a GPSRD for a week in the city and you'll never go back to those damm constantly flashing detectors. The area those high end detectors excell in is country or rural driving. In the city the Uniden GPSRD is the new boss on the block. Unless you've tried one everything you say is mearly conjecture.
I know the V1 owners are very emotional about their investments so I will say V1s are the best detectors that ever have or will be invented even God couldn't do better. However, less emotional types might enjoy the GPSRD.

I dont kno9w the last time I have ever sped in the city. The only time I ever need a detector is on highway and rural areas.

Well I have to admit that so far I do like the Bells and whistles, especially the Trap speeds feature the Satelite Coordinate Communication Accuracy. Its quite impressive. However, i haven't had it long enough to test its effectiveness on its main purpose.
I had it go off this morning a good distance from a cop just over a hill. I could not see the cop. Al I could see form the top of the hill was a Fla Power and Light crew with their trucks and caution lights working high up on wires. I thought thats what the alarm was. But as I got closer, the UINDEN started to do its job, getting much louder and incraesing signal strrength display. Then I saw the Patrol car in the middle of the road right along the Power and Light crew. But, when I passed him, it stopped, which doesn't say much for 360 degree protection.
Ah, and the little lightbulb in my head goes off...
I have to commute past a county fuel depot. Lots of school buses with the strobe light on top. That's what set off the 8500. A bus was nearby both times that happened. Thanks for the info, Jim. Interesting. I wonder if those scramble the cops lidar units?

doubtfull, they recieve BACK only the signal they send to determine the speed of what they are clocking. My 8500 laser has NEVER gone off. The V1 HAS, once or twice when I could not figure out why, and 2 times when I was tagged by Dallas PD. They use the older laser guns. Plano is using a new ittybitty gun that my 8500 (at least) is deaf to. The thing is the size of a small digicam, barely larger than the palm of your hand.
figment-
There ARE some laser jammers that have received good reviews and good reports from Forum posts, although I can't guarantee that they will jam ALL laser guns. Laser detection is usually too late to help, but our V1 saved us from laser last Fall in Wisconsin, apparently our combination of no front plate and foglights on/headlights off prevented him getting a reading until my wife had slowed down.
It is possible that your detectors are not warning you about laser because of the small diameter of the laser beam- if it is aimed at your front plate or headlight, the beam does not spread out enough to hit the detector unless you are rather far away.
