I have the illumination wire for my avic-d2 hooked into the harness for the hvac. Lately I have noticed when driving at night when the display goes into that night time mode that the screen seems to get real bright all of a sudden and then dims. It continues to do this even though I know that I have a solid connection between the wires. Does anyone know what could be causing this?
You need to hook the Illumination wire to a source that is only Hot when lights come on, some folks use the traction control light source. I ran a wire to rear tail lights.
I found that the pulse width for the dimming on my C5 (off the hvac) to my AVIC-N4 is inverted so the unit would not go into the "dark screen" , night time mode.
I had to add an inverter to get it to work properly.

No big deal, one transistor and a few resistors.
Yeah, it's been doing that since I installed it. Sometimes it will go out of the night time mode completely until I restart the car, but most of the time it will stay in the night mode and just get bright and dim over and over. It's kind of annoying while driving at night.
