I too have been researching this unit - From what I can tell the firmware update seems to have ironed out the bluetooth and ipod issues.
Pioneer still hasn't released the software program that lets you upload custom waypoints and POIs, though.
I'm still not biting just yet, but there does seem to be a great deal of value in the units. I need to get firm info on what all accessories are necessary to get iPod video, XM and a rearview camera and maintain the RAP. And I'm not certain about the MSN Direct.
I'd like to know if the AVIC-F700BT gives turn direction using the "correct" street/highway name? The Magellan unit that I have does that, and if I go thru the trouble of doing a double DIN unit that is what I want. I was told by Pioneer that the D3 did not do it which is why I did not buy one of those, does anybody know??

Just a heads up. If you are interested in XM Direct, you will be unable to have HD radio unless you get an additional FM antenna. XM Direct uses the FM radio signal to get it's info and if it is used for HD will not allow for it.
I have personally done the updates on my units and it has improved the load time and bluetooth clarity. This was in car testing and not just on a demo board.
850 vs 1000 dollars isnt huge its 150 dollars for something that will work way better load faster and have better navi. IMO other then the D3 which became extremely cheap I would never consider a pioneer and cant recommend them to any of my customers
I have been keeping an eye on Avic411 as well and there just seems to be too many problems with these F series units. I love the idea of the voice activation bluetooth and ipod controls. Way too many glitches for me to get on of these. R/ Al
I have a AVIC F 900BT in my daily driver and I like it! I did the firmware update and it worked out the problems I had with the unit but thats just my experiance. The sound quality is super lots of cool features. I also have a Z2 in Z06 and it works perfict I had a set of Kenwood speakers on my DD and they were pretty poor quality removed them and replaced with JL Audio's.
I've got the F90BT in my 08 and really like it. I did the first update and the bluetooth works great now. If I did it again I would look closer at the new Kenwood but either way you will love it compared to the factory bose-nav unit...
My only issues are the load time, which isn't too bad and the occasional (twice) ipod not connected message. There are definitely things that need to improve to make it perfect, but for sound quality, ipod function, bluetooth it is great.
My other big gripe is that all of my phone numbers come over without differentiating home from cell etc.. It would be great if you could edit the numbers/names after transfer.
