Not for my Vette, but for my new DD, a 2000 4-Runner (my wife's old ride since we bought her a new car). I bought a new 12 inch sub to give the stock 8 speaker system a little more punch, and resurrected from the closet my old school Rockford Fosgate Punch 40 to power it. Running it bridged and mono, it's got plenty of oomph for the single 12, but it has no built in low-pass filter (crossover), so my sub thinks it's a giant 3-way speaker, when it shouldn't be getting anything higher than 80 hertz. The man at the stereo store where I got the sub doesn't carry anything like that anymore, nor could he find one in his catalog. He of course offered so sell me a new amp with this feature, or a new head-unit with a sub out line, but the whole idea was to do this on a major budget (wife didn't really think at 35 years old I needed a new sub to begin with).
Soooooo.... I looked for one of the old school crossovers (you know the kind that plug right into the RCA jack) on Ebay and Craig's list, nothing but the $100+ multi-component stuff, which is way more than I need. So now I come to the all knowing folks on CF to see if someone has an old antique like that lying around they'd be willing to sell for pretty cheap?
If the other members can't find them to help you out, you may want to give Crutchfield a them a try. If not, Radio Shack may still carry them. I'll see if I can find mine too.
I found mine it is a Harrison F-mod, only problem is that I do not know the cross-over point. If I remember correctly it goes by color code, this one is purple. Its your for the asking. PM me.
I didn't have any luck finding mine yet, I'll look in my storage this weekend... gotta dig through it anyway. If you don't find something before Monday I might have one.
Wow! Thanks for all of the replies. Now that I know where to order one, I think I'll just spring for a new one. I do appreciate all of the offers to help out.
Now... for someone who mainly listens to rock with occasional hip-hop/rap, what should I get?
I normally shoot for the 80 hz zone at the start, and tune from there. I have the crossover on my amp set for 90 hz with a 24 dB slope. It sounds good to me.
I would bet that 70 hz would work fine in your application.
I believe that the only low pass in-line crossovers I saw on the site were for 50, 70, and 100. I think 50 is too low, and 100 is too high, so I'm hoping 70 is just about right.
