Default What Guage Wire?

I am installing a JL Audio 500/5 Amplifier in my new Camaro... and was wondering if 8ga. wire would be good enough for the install since it is only a 40Amp Fuse requirement and a 10-20ft run?

I have about 35ft laying around from a install in a show car and was wondering if it is good enough....

U should be okay with 8 - it really depends on how many amps U push and how far. Crutchfield has an excellent chart and doc at:
http://www.crutchfield.com/infolib/S...e-length-image

I went with 4 Ga for my 1000W amp with 80 amp fusing. 4 Ga wire is a PITA to work with but it does look killer especially going into the 80A AUE fuse under the hood! I don't have to worry my amp is suffering for juice - just need to worry that the alternator doesn't melt! :D
