but with that all said if u reverse engineer the way u have the rca's on your oem harness for your aftermarket amp if you plugged those into the rca output for the radio it would fire ur bose subs and all u would need is a standard gm harness
You're saying to use the low level RCAs output from the Alpine HU and run them into the leads for the Bose subs?...kinda like taking the RCAs from the amp install and putting them flipped around to the Bose sub inputs/wires?
Then just use the other outputs from the Alpine to run the amp for the 12".
What wires(color) do I tap the RCAs into for the Bose subs. What about the common ground?.
I assume I could just do all this behind the HU?
What about the leads for the Bose highs in the doors?
I'm just going to unplug the 12" amp rcas and put them to the HU if I'm reading this right. They still get their feed of the new Alpine HU.
The door highs and the rear coax are still Bose amp'd correct? Just the door Bose subs need a low-level input right?
What number is that standard GM harness? If it's the one I think you can find it anywhere in town...heck wally-world has it.I just wasn't sure it matched up to the Bose wiring connector.
u have multiple connectors the big one is a standard gm sold at wally world part number should be in faq. its the same one used in a 97 cavalier or s10 as corvette wont be listed as an application for it. connect the rcas from ur subs straight to the radio, wire up the gm harness and make sure to connect the power antenna/amp turn on wire from the gm harness to the remote wire on ur radio. (if ur radio has an amp turn on/remote and a power antenna wire make sure to use the amp turn on/remote lead)
then the little rca connectors u spliced into the bose sound processor plug from earlier connect those to the front preout from ur radio and ur bose door subs should work.
the bose amp only powers the door subs, the regular speakers DO NOT run through the bose amp
Ok, I'm on the right track.I guess I could go ahead and upgrade the door highs and the rear twiddlers but not much sense in doing that.I'll do components soon with another amp.
What about the center dash sub?Not that it is needed but curious.
I got ahold of one of the Alpine CDA-D857's for good price.
honestly i would just run the standard gm harness and dont worry about the bose subs, u have aftermarket sub and as u said components and an amp eventually
I'm not sure how long that will be to do components.
By using the split rca's to the Bose door subs doesn't this give a low level and high level signal to the both bose high and low speakers in each door?I can't remember off hand if there are seperate leads for the high and low for the doors or what.
I split the rcas into the clear shielded for common ground(intially I did the lt blue but had a whine) and tan/blk &Lt Grn for +.
that clear shielded is not a common ground, u should be going to the frame of the radio
the only thing powered from that smaller harness is the signal for the bose subs, the rest of the stereo is non amplified and gets it signal from the bigger harness
if u get a standard gm harness and wire it up everything will work except the bose subs which comes from the smaller harness
That is where I got the fuse22 from.It said upper left hand side of the fuse box...well my #22 is in the middle so I stopped. It is BCM L3 10amp.
The C5 faq gives many ways with if and buts...I like the way you did your section but you stop shot of the power and illumination part. The illum I have no issue with.
I never could get the rca outputs on my Alpine to fire up the bose with those adaptors. I used the speaker leads and it sounds fine. Here is a thread that hopefully will shed some light on tghe ins and outs-
