DVD player in a C5
I am sorry if these topics were discussed in the past, but with the search feature on the fritz the last few days, and not seeing anything in the first handfull of pages, I decided to just post new.
I am considering getting a small screen DVD receiver for my new 2000 C5. It currently has the factory CD player radio in it. I was thinking about something like the JVC El Kameleon KD-AVX44.
My questions:
1) Crutchfield says that if you put in an aftermarket radio you will loose that 8" front speakers. Are there ways around that? Other options like dropping the 3.5" and 8" and just getting 6.5" or something like that?
2) I know in dash DVD players are supposed to only work while parked, but that is rather pointless. If I am playing something to keep my passenger entertained while I am driving having the video not play doesn't help. Are their ways around that as well? I know back seat or hanging playes work for people or kids in the back of a car while driving, so I figure there might be some way for 2 seaters or such.
Thanks,
Jim
- Just adding a 6.5" is a popular option. You'll need to build a speaker plate for it though (which is easy once you have the OEM speaker plate out) I think i have the layout of the speaker plate to scale somwhere in the shop. I'll see if i can scan it and post it up.

Alpine head units have a bypass module available from ebay that you can wire in so the unit automatically accesses all the options every time you turn it on. (no fiddling with brake and e-brake sequences and crap) I'm using one of these modules with my IVA D310 with no problems. I'm not sure of any other brands that bypass modules are available for.
