Just bought "my wife" a 84 C4. Our first vette, love the car. The factory Bose deck had been replaced by the previous owner with a cheapie. From what I can tell without removing a lot of panels, the speakers have been replaced as well. My question probably has been covered before, but just for the record, I did search the forums. I would like a wiring diagram or help hooking up a normal (Probably Pioneer) deck unit to the 6 speakers (after replacing the speakers as well). I can find plenty of info on connecting 4 speakers; right, left, front and back, but not 6 speakers (dash, doors, rear). I also plan on installing a small 10" - 12" sub and a small amp, probably 300 watts or so. I don't need, I mean she doesn't need a system to rattle the windows, just a nice sound. If I mount the sub in the compartment behind the pass. seat, will it block to much of the sound to be effective?
most head units are only compatable with 4 channel output. If you want dash speaker (most likely high mids or tweeters) you'll need a passive crossover. Depending on the quality and size of your speakers, you can find cheapos on ebay or i have a set of Alpine SPX 177r (6.5" midrange) and SPX 137R (5.25" midrange) crossovers I can sell you.
Subwoofers have the advantage of being able to be mounted anywhere and be effective. The low frequency waves will pass through just about anything. Just make sure your surrounding panels are bolted down or deadened to prevent the annoying "rattle" that accompanies poor installs.
