My planned winter mod is to install a Kenwood DNX 7120 NAV/MP3 unit into my 2004 Verte. I will be installalling a modified double din center console and losing the ashtray. I know if I use the stock Bose speaker set, I also need to add a wiring harness to handle the increased output from the Kenwood head unit.
My question is whether it is worth it to avoid the harness and simply install new speakers? My goal isn't to win any mobile audio awards and I drive top down 90% of the time. However, if I can obtain a noticable improvement in sound quality, I will consider it, however I don't want to be sold just to be sold.
Also, does anyone know whether you lose the ability to have the volume automatically increase/decrease based on RPM as the stock head unit offers? Can an aftermarket head unit be programmed the same way?
no radios have the auto volume adjust that i can think of, the kenwoods deff dont
the wiring harness has nothing to do with added power it allows the radio to work with ur bose subs
as far as replacing speakers for noticable output, if your gonna replace speakers u might as well add an amp and poss a sub in the back. what kinda budget had u allocated for a speaker upgrade
I am in the process of finishing the install of my kenwood 7100, I gutted the car and added 2 amps, all new speakers and a hidden 12" sub in the rear hatch. it is a TON of back breaking work, you are bent over all day long. I finally got to test it today and the sound is incredible. it is a night and day difference from the Blows stereo. if you are swapping the deck change the speakers also. You can change them and run off the deck power if you don't want to add amps. I don't know of any way to make your stereo volume go up and down with RPMs with a aftermarket stereo
I have a Pioneer (can't remember model#, at work now) in my DD that has settings for auto volume increase/decrease depending on engine noise. I'm sure there must be other makes/models that have that option as well, it's about 2 years old.
