What all will I need to install a 1 din Dvd/mp3 touchscreen head unit and what can I expect to spend on the wiring harness and mounting bracket while keeping the factory Bose speakers? Will the Bose speakers sound decent with another head unit or should I consider better speakers? Thanks in advance.
I know I will need a special wiring harness to keep the Bose speakers. Is it worth the money for the wiring harness or should I just buy new speakers. Also, do you know where I can get the harness cheap and if I change out the speakers do I need to change out the factory wiring too?

I had a stock Bose system in my '02 Z06 until last May when I installed a new Kenwood DNX 7120> I kept the Bose speakers and used a Pacific Audio interface which made the whole thing really easy to do (just be sure to connect the subwoofer power line to the harness!)
I am very happy with the sound and of course I love the GPS, Bluetooth and I REALLY love being able to play my music directly from a USB memory stick. No discs or iPod adapter needed! I may even try a DVD at some point

What if I want to get rid of the Bose speakers and replace them with after market speakers? Will I have to replace anything such as speaker wires and/or amp and will that be enough bass without the bose subs?
ur gonna loose bass for sure. imo if you are replacing factory speakers put components up front run new wiring and add an amp
you can rip all the bose out of the front doors and just put a 6.5 coaxial in and run it straight off the headunit with no need to run wiring but its not gonna sound great IMO
FYI if you check out c5 faq towards the end i have a nice post on keeping stock subs without spending big bucks for adapter
