Default New way to mount rear view camera

Ive just had my DD GPS unit installed a couple of weeks ago....but I didn't have the rear view camera installed because no one had a good idea of how to mount the camera with out drilling holes in the cars body..Something I wanted to avoid if possible.

My wife has an Infinity with a rear view camera mounted just above the license plate..

So looking at the vette I discovered hat it has just enough space to accommodate a camera and its mounting base just like the Infinity.

So next was to figure out how to hold it in place.

So as I was disassembling things today looking into the problem I noticed that the back of the license plate base had two nubs, where the license plate ...So....I came up with this....

The plate holder. notice the nubs

The bracket

Mating the bracket to the back of the plate..

The whole assembly in its final location

Now with the camera in place....Ill paint the bracket black so it disappears

Looks good, but a lot of work.

The camera I used on mine had just the right hole spacing to bolt right up to two of the screws that hold the license plate lights.

I know what you mean.

I liked the idea of the IR feature though.

Hey if it works and your happy, that's all that counts.

I got it off Ebay (actually 2 as I put one in front).

http://cgi.ebay.com/CCD-LICENSE-PLAT...3A1%7C294%3A50

I had to modify the housing a bit (Dremel) to get the right angle, but that was pretty easy.

Used the existing screws that hold the license plate lights so I didn't have to drill any holes.

I think you will like it.

Just remember that you have to carve a half moon in the housing to get the right angle

Good luck.

There should have been a cable for the 12 volt and you need to get a cable to connect the video out to your system.

The camera takes an RCA male as should your system.

I read the manual and there isn't any showstopper.

You should have no problem.

lol... i didn't know that i had the installation manual in the unit's box!! u see what happened is that i i bought the unit from a local shop and i had them install it for me, i didnt like their installation because it felt like they didnt use the oem radio harness to get the power to the unit because it would be powered with engine on only! and the unit would shut down right after i turn off the car even though the doors were closed!! and when i tried to have them fix that they said thats how its supose to be!! but i didnt quit and i kept searching in the forum till i found the section about the after market stereo installation so i re wired it by my self using the oem harness this time and when i did that i didnt find any wire conected to the shifter or to the back up lights to let the unit detect the back up movement of the car so it would switch to the camera when u start reversing, now i see in the manuel which wire i have to conect to the back up lights!! so thanks for the help friend and i think i 'll start the istallation tomorrow morning and i 'll post some pics here to show u how it did work
