Installing a new Alpine HU and keeping the Bose speakers. Will a Metra xsvi-2004 work as the interface.Installer.com says that is the one for my 2003 Vette and that the PAC roem needs other componets. That Metra is $105. I am going to use the PAC but was trying to get some additionale information.
I finally got around to having a XSVI-2004 put in my 2000 coupe which came with an Alpine head unit when I bought it and basically had no front speaker functionality. I took it to a stereo install place here in Phoenix and they basically did a plug and play install in about 20 minutes. Sounds just like it did from the factory now.
BTW, I paid $63 dollars for the Metra at a stereo supply store in Phoenix.
I read a couple of other posts on this subject and the RAP function does work with this Metra adapter. The RAP function is the radio keeps playing when you turn the car off until you open a door.
I haven't, but most likely the popping sound is due to either interference with wiring somewhere, gain being set too high on your amp or a voltage spike from an amp (assuming you have an amplifier). If these are the case, I'd check all the wiring making sure you have the proper size wires going from the battery to your amp, as well as looking for any bare wire that might be making contact. If you don't have an amp, I'd check all of your wire connections from the headunit to the Metra adapter. Hope that helps!
which of the "pig tails' does the interface hook up to?
Or which color wires is it hooking up to?
Does the Metra have a plug that simply connects? or does it need to be spliced in?
Both, it connects and there is a group of wires to splice. It was not something I wanted to mess with so I took it to a stereo install place and they were done in 20 minutes.
