Default "Benching" the DNX 5120

Is there any advantage to "benching" the DNX 5120 by hooking it up to a 12volt power supply and getting to know how it operates before install? I will be installing later after the temps start to get warmer since I have no heater in my garage. I thought I could go ahead and install the firmware update and pair the unit to my phone. I would not have it attached to any speakers so is there a risk of damage since there would be no load on the amp? Good idea or bad?

No disadvantage that I can see, and you would at least be familiar with it when you start driving around with it. Depending on where you have it you may not be able to get a GPS signal and it may limit your messing around with the NAV, but at least you can get a feel for searching for destinations, etc.

It's a new toy, play with it!
