Is it worth it to add a center channel if it means cutting into the dash?
so, to be clear, I only used the 5.1 center channel when watching a movie. never had it in a vette, but did in my '01 pt cruiser and honda accord.... If you ever get a chance, watch the first few minutes of "Gladiator" ...

You can't just throw one of these systems together. You have to know what the hell you're doing.

Overpowering has nothing to do with bass. I can assure you that there are a couple of people that would come to my defense in this thread. Being a musician for 19 years does not make you an expert in sound or its reproduction, it only proves you have the ability to play said music, albeit well based on your "employers". Just like being a golfer for 40 years does not make you an expert, or even good for that matter, you have the ability to play the game.

1600 watts to bass is not really a big deal, and usually pretty damn lame to be honest. I had 165w per speaker in my last truck, tweets included, with 750w on an 8" sub. Believe my I am 100% more into quality than I am into "bass". But you can hear a misplucked string in my ride, that you would never hear in a system with "rear fill". The sound stage is too muddled. You could pick out where any particular musician is sitting on a soundstage across the dash of my last truck, and it had 5 total speakers, none of which were "rear fill". Just like you can tell where a musician is standing on a real stage at a concert, which to me is the point, Accurate reproduction as the artist (and more importantly mixer/engineer) intended it to be.

If I were you I would be done with this argument as well. Arguing on the internet is pointless, especially when you run into someone more knowledgeable on the topic.

Vince you don't like the center speaker commentary I made? Stereo reproduction is 2 channels bro, period. Whether you take 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 speakers to replicate it without duplication, it is still 2 channels of material.

Listening to movies in your ride is an entirely different application, and one that has a purpose and encoding to properly utilize a center channel speaker. If you want home theater in your ride, cool man enjoy, I just hope you don't live in Nor Cal so you are paying attention to the other task in the car

I suppose it's time to find a home for my leftover component set....out of my sight so i doesn't bug me.

if anyone wants a single SPX 177r component set, I'll ship it for $20.

I'm sure it would make a good mono setup for something simple....like a cellphone

didn't say I didn't like it. Yes, listening to music, i used to leave my processor in stereo mode, but for movies, then I utilized the center channel and processing available to me. Never watched a movie while driving....

still funny about the knowledge on the other site...

Ok CA.com is really lame, but the other 2 used to be very solid sites, but now have been infiltrated by the morons from CA.com. Search for posts on Elite from 2004-2006 and there is a lot of great info from guys like werewolf. DIYmobileaudio was great up until about 6-8 months ago and has fallen to 156 posts per day of "which sub is more ub3r d00d?!?? and "why does my system sound like crap, I have a Kraco 15" sub in a shoe box with 2000 Jensen watts to it"

Oh well. In the end it is your ears, do what makes you happy.

I've given up on most car audio sites. at the height of my researching, i think i was active on some 6 forums just reading stuff mostly looking for reccomendations on various companies/products.

It's become boring and now i only go there to look at crazy-cool installs and new fiberglass techniques.
