OK this has never happen to me at all with my old car. Well i just purchased a 03 Z06 and noticed (not all the time) that when i get on it hard my radar tends to go into "laser" mode when there isnt any cop in sight. It has done this quite a few times. Its kinda scary but annoying at the same time. Is there something in the Z06 that may be causing false alarms? I know there isnt a cop tagging me with his laser cause ove done this a few times behind my house on a long deserted road. And i get the same results. Other than that the radar works just fine with K band and Ka, but dont understand why its doing this.. Any ideas would be great.
Does it do the same thing when you first start up the car?
Maybe power is momentarily interrupted during hard acceleration due to an intermittent connection. If it is powered using an Invisicord, sometimes a pin can work itself loose.
No it does not do that when start up. It is plugged in with the cord to the ciggerette lighter port. Its just strange though. If it was a power thing wouldnt it turn it off then back on? This just makes it go into laser mode..
OK. On my V1 the power on sequence looks very similar to the holy crap it's Laser alert.
Assuming there are no Lasers or anything similar in the vicinity as you have proved, the simplest answer is a loose connection somewhere, probably inside the detector.
Have you taken it out of the mount and tilted it or given it a gentle shake?
Is the unit warmed up/hot or does it happen as soon as you turn it on and hit the gas?
Finding intermittent problems are a b*tch. Your only recourse may be to send it in for service.
Sorry I couldn't be more help. Hopefully someone with an 8500 will chime in.
I would search for answers on radardetectors.net. I do recall reading about that being a problem with the Passports, although I don't recall what the cause behind it was.
