Default InV1si-Mirror for your V1!

yesterday I stopped by Jim Powell's place to take a look at this installation for the V1 remote and came away quite impressed!

he takes your mirror, or a replacement mirror and installs the remote in the mirror itself. when your V1 unit is off, you only see rear view mirror, when it's on you see only the lighted parts on the remote, i.e. logic letter, bogie counter, signal strength, and directional arrows, again only when lit! he even incorporates the ambient light sensor, so the diplay adjusts to ambient lighting!

it's way cool! his explanation of pricing to me was this, $200 includes a replacement mirror from him (this was based on a BMW mirror price of abut $60, I don't know if vette mirrors are more or less) and the V1 remote from him, + shipping to you in about a week.

he said it would be less if you supplied your own mirror and possibly less if you supplied your own remote.

we're suppling our own boxser S mirror and his remote, so he charging me $150, + shipping. not bad considering the remote is $40 anyway!

it looks just as good in person as it does on his web site!

Does it fit in a C5 convertible mirror (less space due to lighting hardware)?

I also don't think this will work with the electrochromic mirror introduced in 2001.

Once you have this installed, where are you putting the actual V1 unit?

in my 94 roadster, I took the V1 visor clip mount and removed the clip itself, and fashioned a piece to make the mount and my windshiedl headliner (just to the right of the rear view mirror) mate, and then drilled into the headliner and metal underneath, to allow a couple of sheet metal screws to hold it, ran the wires underneath the plastic headliner material.

the unit is out of view of most lurkers, even with the top down, as it has to go forward to be under the headliner to the window tint area, window tint to allow max sensitivity for radar recption.

having mounted the visor clip mount, the V1 unit can be removed by sliding it out, although the tonly time I have removed it was when my windshield needed replacing due to a rock chip/crack
