this is going to be for a 69 vert, a bit different then what you guys are used to working with.
i want to go with a nice set of 6.5 components, but something thats not going to break the bank. im looking for something thats around the best bang for the buck.
i like my music loud, but i hate hate HATE a bright and shrill sound (one of the reasons im finally ditching 4x6s and going components) id like something that gives a nice strong bass, and a nice, warm, smooth, upper range. something that when its really cranked up, it sounds nice and easy on the ears. not like im being stabbed in the fking ear with an ice pick... ive had that too many times now. damn you Infinity.... i like for the bass to be an accompaniment, not be the music its self.
i mostly listen to metal with a strong vocal. (lacuna coil, colide, dragon force, nine inch nails (yes, i know its not metal) etc..) along with heavier rock (disturbed, static X, kill switch engage) and classic rock.
no rap at all.
currently ive got an Alpine CDA-9815 and an Xtant A4004 (100x4 @ 2OHM, 50x4 @ 4Ohm, Bridged 200x2 @ 4Ohm) ill be adding in a 2nd amp some time down the line for a small sub.
The Pioneer Premier PRS720's get a lot of good pub around here. I haven't listened to them personally but more than a few guys who's opinions I respect have spoken well of them. The Focal Polyglass might work for you too, but you'd have to be very selective with the placement of the tweet as Focal tweets tend towards the bright side.
cdt doesnt have any place local i can demo them, so it looks like theyre out. i had to email quart for a dealer location, so ill see what they tell me.
what about the polk momo line? ive been eyeing the mmc6500 for awhile now.
momos are a nice speaker i have installed em in a few cars
IMO its not worth the money to buy a 300+ speaker set for a c3 because they are naturally noisy cars so u wont ream the benefits of a top of the line speaker
for some reason, it seems i do more sitting in the car then i do driving it. im looking at stuff like the budget line of the high end speakers out there. i figure thats my best bet for finding what i want.
You need a silk, or cloth dome tweeter if you don' like "bright sound"
DLS makes a really nice set of SQ entry level speakers. They are called the Ultimate UP line. UP6's have a very smooth sound, silk dome tweeters, and they are very affordable.
there are laid back metal domes and bright silk domes, you can't just assume that one material will be harsh and the other not. It's true in many cases, of course.
im actually having some fitment issues right now. i havnt ordered anything yet, and i knew spaced was cramped to begin with, but i didnt realize how cramped. (something like 2 1/2 inches deep and 4 inches wide, and its a manual car so i cant have it sticking out very far)
im trying to get some measurements for several different speakers right now, im hopeing im not going to be stuck with the budget line stuff.
Hmm Im doing an upgrade to my c5 and it seems between 100-150 there are alot of great choices , mb quarts esp also jl audio. Any one tried any of these..the $bay is full of them

You would be better off staying with your stock stuff than putting a 100 dollar pair of speakers in your car...
Quality speaker component sets start at about 3 bills for entry level stuff.
most of the stuff on ebat is being blown out for 140-150 a pair that were orig over 300 like mb quart, jl etc, I dont think u can go wrong with a set of 70w rms mb, for 150.00??
thanks for the help guys, but im stuck with flush mounted 4x6s. theres so little room between the wall and the clutch as is, anything that sticks out of the wall with be kicked/ripped off immediately.
