I know this is all subject to opinion but out of these brands for an 8" subwoofer which would sound best... also what is everybody else running with 8's and how does it sound? I dont want a box of 10's or 12's bc I like my storage space thanks!
brands:
JL
JBL
MA audio
Kicker
infinity
CDT
Lanzar
MB Quart
RE audio
Diamond Audio
also as far as amps for under 150 each is eclipse about the top of the line? thanks again
I called around to three diff shops they all said the same Diamond, JL, MB quart JL and diamond tied for first and considering diamond is half the price I might be able to sell my infinity and get it without being out of pocket.
yeah I just was thinking I might be able to get just a little bit better bass with a diff. sub. I am very happy with my components and amps. Looking to upgrade sub and maybe head unit to something ipod compatible.
Also, most members in the Audio/Electronics section, have the C5 Vette which speaker and subwoofer placement are much simpler to install than the smaller C4 interior.
Many posters in this section might assume you're talking about the C5 Vette audio system.
If you have the depth the best of those in my opinion would be a jl 8w7, but that is just my opinion. I have 2 jl 8w7s in my yukon and am thinking of putting 1 or 2 in my c6. They are probably the best sub I have heard in a long time. I have had 10" subwoofers that don't hit as hard or go as low as the 8w7. Right now I have a jl 10w3v2 in my c6 but it is no where near the sound of the 8w7. Again this is just my opinion.
I have a pair of JL 8W3s in my convertible, they are a good sub....mine are in sealed boxes and they hit pretty good. I have two 8 ohm subs pulling a 4 ohm load on the amp, it is an Audison SRX3 with a dedicated sub line conservatively rated at 270 watts @ 4 ohm, so 135 watts to each sub. If you are in a coupe, you might be able to get away with a single 8 in a ported box. A single ten would be better. I don't really see any reason to go with the 8w7 unless you are gonna run monster power to it and even then I would just go with a bigger woofer. How much power are you planning to run to the sub? Also check out the new Olk MM840s, I don't know anything about them but I like the spec sheet on them and Polk makes excellent speakers for the price. Crutchfield has a buy one get another half off deal going on Polks any combination of speakers so you could get get a sub and a set of components for example.
yeah I have had polk momo 12's before and really didnt hear much diff. from infinity I mean dont get me wrong they sounded diff. but it was a trade off b/w what I liked in the infinity and what I liked in the polks here is a pic of my old setup
I think we need more details to give you good advice. Do you want a well rounded audiophile system with some clean bottom end or do you want the boomin' system that can be heard a block away. I am very satisfied with the sound of my two 8" JLs they definately do the job for my musical taste which is towards pop/rock/jazz/electronica...I can listen to rap and it gives excellent tight clean bass but my two 8s will not make the whole car shake. My system is simple but sounds very well balanced, I have no desire to change it at all. 6.5" Hertz Hi-energy component sets in the doors with 75 watts of power to each door and then the 270 watts going to my two JL 8" woofers in sealed boxes directly behind the seats of my C6 convertible.
A JL8w3 might outdo a very, very bad 12" subwoofer for volume. Maybe. If the bad 12 is in a badly designed box.
Four eights will never hit as hard as one twelve, and they can never play as deep either. They will sound tight(er), but never hit as hard.
Good bass is all relative to box volume, & design. In a tiny box like the JL stealth box for C6's, your only going to get so much SPL regardless of speakers, or power. It's all about the box cubes and speaker cone mass....
The Infinity Kappa Perfect series are very nice sounding woofers, but you have to have the right sized box. Kicker Subs are good speakers as well, provided you don't buy the two 12" for 99.00 versions.
Match your sub with the right cubic feet, and you'll have great sound.

Sorry but there is lots of bull**** in this thread by many people (not just the quoted) who have little car audio knowledge. It’s obvious by reading the posts. This post quoted above… doesn’t have a clue about audio or speaker design and its obvious. Ignore the comments about everything. If you want space and some bass then an 8 is probably going to suite you just fine. Pick a good 8” depending on the style of bass that you like. There are some monster 8” subs out there but not listed on your list. You may want to venture over to a car audio specific site for some better info.
