Default Sirius antenna.

Would reception be better if the Sirius antenna was mounted to a large metal surface.I have the new smaller antenna on the dash where the defroster vent is.The reception is pretty good but cuts out when driving under trees. I used to have the older larger antenna mounted under the hood near the hood hinge on the metal frame of the car and reception was good.I was wondering if the metal frame of the car helps reception if the antenna is mounted to it?

Yes it does help. When you stick that antenna's magnet to the car it couples the antenna to the frame in effect making the entire frame part of the antenna. Putting it on a metal plate may help a bit but my guess is you'll still get drop outs under trees.
