I have an 02Z06, and have had the amp go out on it. I don't really want to put any money into fixing the Bose. Would rather just install a Nav headunit and replace my speakers.
I really like the Pioneer F90BT. What speakers would be a good fit for me? I want to keep the car looking stock, meaning I want good speakers that will fit in the door/speaker enclosures without modding. Don't want to add an amp as I think this unit will power the speakers enough for me. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
Well, you can fit close to any speaker you wish in the stock location. There will no matter what you choose be some fabrication involved. Go down to a stereo shop and listento some demo speakers. If they have some in vehicle even better... It is really hard to toss any model numbers or specific speakers out there to ya when you didnt give a budget or power info...
Is spending $300-$400 on speakers going to cheap? I just want something that is going to sound good, I was ok with how the stock bose sounded. Not real picky afterall I have the SLP Loudmouths on the car so system is ever going to be great. Thanks for your help.
You can easily make (or simply buy) mounting plates to put new speakers in the doors. Several forum vendors have them now.
I'd remove the entire stock speaker unit in the doors and put in new 2 or 3-way 6.5" speakers on homemade mounts (<$100). That HU shouldn't put out enough power to distort the OEM rear speakers, which many will tell you to ditch, but IMO if you aren't going to put in a sub I'd keep them. If the stock speakers don't sound right, you can always replace them later.

That budget should give you a good setup. I may suggest taking a peak over at caraudio.com in the classified and trying to see if anyone has a set of Morels, Hertz or ID comps...You can usually find a good set un used or lightly used for about $200-250. All brands low line speakers are far superior to the stockers. That would leave you with enough left for a small amp to run them on. With an hours time of work with a jig saw and or router you could have a sweet sounding setup on your hands that would probably impress you beyond your needs since it doesn’t seem like you desire a crazy system. Best of luck to ya.
Rich and Mark, thank you both for the advice you have given. Now I just gotta spend some time price checking. Gonna order NAV tomorrow and check around for speakers, at least now I have a direction to head. Thanks again to the both of you.
