Help with speaker choice.
What's your budget?
Yeah, if you're going for some nice sound quality, you should do some sound deadening.
I personally bought some cheap Fat Mats on that auction site.
There are so many speakers anywhere from $50 to those that cost more than a grand.

Don't need real hard thump, just great quality. Like to spend between $500.00 to $1,000.00.

dynaudio
dls
hertz
pioneer premier
damping:
second skin (BEST, mid price)
Dynaudio (good, high price)
raamat (not bad, low price)
pretty much all other damping mat is trash or made from asphalt, or doesn't stick, or doesn't have a foil layer. or is actually roofing material.

What amp would work well with this setup?
If you want to spend money on power, TRU or Audison or McIntosh IMO.

That's why I bought a pair myself.

As far as amps, you can pretty much use any multi-channel amplifiers that puts out enough power for those speakers.
Like others mentioned, TRU, Audison, etc. are high-end amps which ain't cheap. But it WILL give you a nice clean sound.
PDX is also a nice amp; small, efficient. But keep in mind it's a Class D amp.
I've personally used anything from MTX, RockFord to JLs.
I have a Zuki Eleets sitting in my living room waiting to get installed, and I'm pretty excited about it.

Try some audio forums online, and you'll get a good idea of the most popular amps.
You can get those speakers for less $$ from sonic electronix.com

Good luck!

For another 125 or so, you could have a REALLY nice set of Polk SR6500's, or DLS UR6.5's that I'm sure would bury those Pioneers.
But then again, like Kale & Fej said, or eluded to. You are going to need clean power to take advantage of good speakers.
I have nothing against Pioneer, but as far as I've known, they have never been considered "high" quality. They been more of a semi-decent price point type of manufacturer.
I too enjoy the old school power of the late 80's-mid 90's, and would recommend those amps over nearly everything to date.
I remember back in the mid 80's using a 12" sub-woofer that really blew away the traditional Kicker woofers that most guys used back then, but I've never used them for a sound quality set-up, and never would.
I would compare the quality to an old Jensen type set-up. They sounded good, but not really good, you know?
Still not sure what amp to use so any more info there would really help. Brand and model.
Besides an amp, any thing else I will need?
I can rebuild a tractor or weld just about anything but don't know diddly about speakers or amps. Whats a class D?
For $250 I would put them against any other set in the market, and with a small tweet exchange put them up against almost any other raw driver at the price point when run active and HP'd above 80hz.
G'luck on your choices and set up, and don't ask too much from a 6 5/8" driver (it is not really a 6.75)
