Default Old School Power

Fej had mentioned his taste for Old School power, and I couldn't resist posting up some pics of my collection of what I consider GREAT power.

Please feel free to join in, and post some pics of your old school set-ups, or amp collections....

This should be fun!!!

That is a VERY nice amp, some of the nicest power PPI has ever made. They are a bit big though eh....

You have to love the Art Series stuff for their ballsy tone. They are clean, and very powerful.

The older M series are more comparable in sound to the Soundstream D II series stuff, which is one of my top three favorites.

I've got so much more stuff, it's not even funny. Honestly, I think I've tried nearly every high end amp ever made, and I don't dislike a single one of them (thus the huge collection).

It makes my wife nuts, having all those electronics around, but I just can't seem to part with it.

I found some more stuff/pics....

I have a ton of more high end amps & toys, but not "Old School" stuff..

Enjoy!

Now days, maybe 200.00 or so. That's what it would fetch auction style anyway. A year ago, you'd get closer to 400 for it.

If you have one, and want to sell it, don't do it on ebay until the economy turns around.

I had a mint condition Sinfoni 45x2 that's worth at least 600.00 used sell for 325.00. That hurt BAD!

I wouldn't sell any of my equipment on ebay right now. You'll get almost half of what it's worth...

Have you reconsidered a 12 step program ?
I wish I had a nickel for every dollar you've spent on equipment.
How many days did you say it had been since your last EQ adjustment ?
Man I'm just a beginner.
Thanks for documenting your downward spiral.
I'm sure glad my wife won't see this.

Seriously .. ... Thanks for the awesome pix.

Just today I listened to a system with Phass Amps and Speakers, and was just wondering what Phass equipment you have and your opinion ?

LOL, these are pieces of equipment that I've accumulated over the last 15-20 years or so...

As far as the Phass amps go, I've never heard of them. That doesn't mean that they are not good, it just means I've yet to see any in a SQ set up here in the middle of the Pacific.

I like to stay with equipment that I have personal experience with, or at the VERY least have heard in a car, not the show room.

IMHO, if you were to buy any of the amps pictured above, you will be getting something that you could be sure is of Sound Quality grade.

With respect to the new amps, stick to things that are hand made in the USA, or European locations. The new Soundstream, Kicker, etc. stuff is all made in China crap. For some, the quality may be acceptable, but once you've heard a really good SQ system, you can never go back.

Also, I would stay away from Manufacturers that make more than one thing, ie: Amps, Speakers, Head Units, etc. Most companies are good at one thing, and one thing only. Clarion for example, used to make one of the very best head units back in the 80's, but that doesn't mean that their amps are any good.

I know I'm going to catch hell for this, but JL audio is one of those companies. They make some of the best stuff, for the made in China categories, but I most certainly wouldn't buy anything from them, save for a Stealth box, or a sub-woofer. Most of the brands that you find in a specialty car audio store (not best buy) are going to be made in China, Class D, rubbish. They have HUGE profit margins built in because the equipment is bunk, and more than likely won't last more than a couple of years. But people still buy it because everyone has heard of JL audio. Alpine, same thing.

Back in the old days, quality equipment was EXPENSIVE, almost $5.00 per watt. That was all hand made, and was made to last. Parts are still available to repair that stuff, where as the equipment today is almost disposable.

Woa dude, you have some seriously great stuff there

I am jealous, I should have acquired more of the old stuff when I was into this hobby. I always ended up trading up or selling the old a/d/s and Soundstream I had to get different stuff.

I miss my reference amps, I still have a/d/s Ps5 running my tweets in the vette, and I sold off all of my old Audiocontrol stuff.

Let me know if you ever want to part with any of the PPI or Soundstream stuff

Fej

I had some of that stuff for sale on here a few weeks ago.

I would consider a trade for a C6 Stealthbox, or/and a Pioneer Nav Head Unit.

NICE!

Those were some really powerful amps back then, and they sounded awesome too.
