Hey I have a 98 hatch. I had all of factory bose stuff, then I swapped out the 3.5" speakers. No problem, even sounded good too, but I need more bass. I listen to every thing from rap to country. I really don't want to do a sub so I was told component speakers are the way to go, so I bought a pair. I installed every thing in the door panels. I was told I didn't need the 3.5" speakers anymore so I put the cross-overs there.
(man I hope all that made sense)
I now have even less bass than before There is a tiny bit of bass. the highs and mids aren't to bad. Did I install these wrong or do I need to get an amp?
speaker specs
Memphis 15-MSYNC8
max power 120w
continuous power 60w
sensitivity 93db
Better sounding? Very yes.
More bass? Well, maybe. If you use bass boost. It won't sound that great, but neither did the bose. Keep in mind you can cook speakers with careless bass-boost settings.
If you can get a good install with a good set of 6.5 components (in the right enclosure) with an amp this might get you closer to where you want to be with some mid bass that they can put out. But you can't just stick any components in the door and expect that kind of result. However, as you say you want bass I'm afraid a sub is the best solution (and easiest). You don't need something huge maybe an 8 inch sub is all you need?

Its starting to look like a sub now. I have a memphis 12in layin around I'll more than likely use.
