How any V1 customers?

How many Passport 8500?

Plus the upgrade thing has me concerned also.

I have an old probably from 1995 V1 unit, for me to upgrade to a brand new unit will cost me $189. Now where can you get a brand new radar detector and still upgrade it after owning it for almost 15 years for almost 1/2 the cost of a new unit and have a new warranty?

Everyone else besides V1 will make you buy a whole new unit.

Mine works great. I had a cop follow me for a couple miles and then drop back quite a ways and the detector worked great alerting me to the radar strength with the bars on the display. The cop eventually got annoyed with me doing the speed limit and eventually blasted by me traveling well over the legal limit, hopefully to an emergency at the speed he was traveling.

Chris so you are saying that the Passport does detect radar from the rear? I thought only the V1 does that?

Still undecided. anymore test results?

What is nice about the V1 it will show you where the radar is coming from, side's or rear. The V1 will also tell you how many radars are around you and what direction the strongest signal is coming from, no other detector can do that!

I fail to see a big advantage to ascertaining which direction the radar is coming from. All I really want or need is a reliable alert when a active police radar or laser is in the area.

So you would rather guess the direction of the radar?

With the V1 you can see if the radar is behind you or in front or on the side.

I have had it several times where a cop had zapped me from the side then rear when I was passing an on ramp and then seen there was one in front of me too, it helps so you can slow down.

I have also have had it tell me there was a cop coming from the side while I was passing an intersection.

What sucks is hearing a beep and guessing where the cop may be.

Having no warning about radar direction is like still watching Black and White TV when you can buy a Color TV.

Yes, there is a rear pointing sensor that picks up signals from radar behind you. When you mount the detector, you have to ensure the top of the unit is not blocked by the rear view mirror so it had clear line of site out of the rear window.

You really think there is some value to knowing exactly which direction the radar is? Who cares????? As long as you're getting notified that there's active police radar scanning your car, then that should be enough notice to check your speedometer.

I could care less if he's behind me or in front of me. It truly doesn't matter. But if I really do want to ascertain the location of the officer, then I will simply open my eyes and check around. I can probably spot him faster than you can, cause you gotta look at the device, then read arrow signal, then spot the cop. Meanwhile, all I gotta do is glance around. For pinpointing exact location of cop, I bet two eyes beat V1 every time.......

What about the case where you are on the interstate, and going the same direction? With a V1 you know he's behind you, so you can speed up and get away; or he's in front, so you can slow down.

Sounds like somebody just needs to break down and spend the $400.

PS - I've only had mine since Monday and knowing where the signal is coming from is nice. Why would you want less information from a detector?

Well, I just ordered my V1, after asking around and mike from V1 the V1 comes in first. The only lousy thing is the direct hookup. He uses a telephone wire where invisicord uses two pion like prongs to insert into the connector. I like that.
But I have 30 days to try it out.

As I get older and somewhat wiser, I have come to realize that simplicity is almost always better.

The ONLY thing I want from a radar detector is an alarm (no falses) sound when police have active radar or laser in my area.

Well this would be the best thing for you then since you just want an alarm and simplicity, I bet the manual is only 1 paragraph too.

Simplicity is better..... Why did you buy a newer Corvette with all of the complex electronics and machinery when the old cars are far simpler than the new ones?

The Invisicord has the pins to insert into the mirror connector on one end and the RJ11 telephone connector that plugs into the V1 on the other end. It couldn't be simpler.

The RJ11 telephone connector is used for other options available with the V1, otherwise it would have a regular cord.
