Stealthy V-1 Install for Convertable
Gents,
Well, my previous detector has bit the dust so I have finally decided to go with the V-1 over the SR-1. Just love those arrows! But I need to mount it totaly hidden, or it will be ripped off within 30 seconds out of my vert, and probably take a nice $600 rag top in the process too :nonod:
So I ordered the V-1 with the audio and visual remotes which I can pretty much hide. Now to hide the actual V-1.
I have seen Jim's remote install of the V-1 in the mirror - very nice. But it seems he has never done an auto dim mirror before and I don't feel like being the test subject.
So I thought I would find a watertight electrical box and mount it under the front bumper. Yeah, I know, I'll lower the sensitivity and loose the rear laser, but it is better than having it ripped off every other day. I found a clear watertight electrical box that is transparent to IR tranmission. Does anyone know if Laser operates in the IR or UV freq range?

You'll probably lose the rear radar detection too, not just reduce its sensitivity. In which case, the arrows are useless. Maybe you should have gotten the SR1.
The mirror mount for the V1 does a good job of concealing the unit, with the top up. Top down, anybody will see it.
Good places to mount the remote display are in the ashtray or inside the center vent.

Speed laser is supposed to be 904 nm, if that helps.
You might consider mounting the V1, in a waterproof container, inside the plastic front bumper. I suspect that it would have a short and unhappy life mounted UNDER the bumper.
I had my V1 mounted inside a Kleenex box, casually placed in a plastic bin at the front of the front of the cargo area, as high as practical. Worked OK. Range was decreased somewhat and the arrows were confused, but still better than nothing. Finally I just put it at the top of the windshield like everyone else, but I have a coupe and only need to park in good areas so theft is not a problem.
(More Money) For laser, buy a Laser Blinder for about $300 that not only detects laser but also jams it. Nothing visible inside the car except a small on-off switch.
